Nirupa Roy was an actress in Hindi movies are known for playing the role of the Indian mother stereotype. She was notorious for always playing the mother, who was either blind, disabled, poor.She almost always mangaged to lose his children one way or another in every film. She played theheroine in her early films, and the hero's mother in her movies from the 1970's and 80's.

Nirupa Roy was born as Kokila Kishorechandra Bulsara in Valsad, Gujarat. She married Kamal Roy, when she was 15 and moved to Mumbai. They have a son Yogesh and a daughter. She died after a cardiac arrest in Mumbai 13 October 2004 at the age of the 73rd.

She and her husband responded to an advertisement in a Gujarati paper looking for actors. She was elected and began his acting career with a Gujarati film Ranakdevi. She pretty much played mythological characters in films from the 1940's and 50's.
